Buffalo: Why Go
Buffalo/Niagara Falls, NY: The Rainbow Connection
This honeymoon hotspot is not just for lovers and dreamers. The larger-than-life falls, scenic hiking areas, vineyards, and tasty treats will melt even the coldest of hearts.
Place we love, even if it's touristy: As one of the Seven Wonders of the World, it's no surprise that Niagara Falls attracts families, honeymooners, and visitors from around the globe. Take the Cave of the Winds tour and walk the catwalk to within feet of the thunderous falls.
Activity we love, even if it's touristy: Since 1846, Maid of the Mist cruises has been taking visitors to the foot of the American and Horseshoe (Canadian) Falls. Even though you get a poncho, getting misty is part of the fun (so is kissing under the falls!).
Local Secret: Solitude is just south of the falls at the Three Sisters Islands. Take a footbridge from Goat Island, pick a secluded spot, and watch the massive falls.
Sate your sweet tooth: Next to the Rainbow Bridge is a kitschy soft-serve cone-shaped shop--the Twist o' the Mist, where you can snag super-sized scoops of Perry's Ice Cream.
History lesson: Trace the formation of the Niagara Falls through various exhibits and with a short movie at the Schoellkopf Geological Museum.
Local flavor: The Buffalo wings craze started in 1964, when Teressa Bellisimo fried some wings, covered them in a secret sauce, and served them at the Anchor Bar. Come here and taste why the restaurant was awarded the 2003 James Beard Award.
Off-the-beaten path: Take to the Niagara Wine trail and drive, or even bike, through vineyards to wineries like the Warm Lake Estate, Niagara Landing Wine Cellars, and female-owned Winery at Marjim Manor. This region is famous for its Eiswein, a product of allowing the grapes to freeze on the vine, in order to concentrate the sugars.
