Tucson: Why Go
Tucson, AZ: "Om" on the Range
Whether you consider yourself to be a Zen-like "new-age" or a "man's man" like John Wayne, Tucson's decadent desert will galvanize your senses, no matter who are you.
Place we love even if it's touristy: Explore the Sonoran Desert Museum, and you will experience the best and most beautiful areas of the Sonoroan Desert without breaking a sweat. From a botanical garden to a zoo filled with coyotes, lions, and bears in their natural habitat, this Zen-like oasis is the place to bond with nature--without the inconveniences of, well...nature.
Break the bank dinner: Small, simple, but full of character, the Dish is known throughout Tucson as the place for fine dining and impeccable service. Although you have to search to find it tucked behind a wine shop, this 12-table bistro is definitely worth the effort.
Science lesson: Biosphere II is a domed, self-contained ecosystem, which house scientists for two years in the early nineties. Today you can visit to get a sense of what it might be like to live in a space station of the future, and yes, there was a Pauly Shore movie about the ecosystem made in the '90s. We think it's rad.
Bring the kids: Trace the footsteps of movies stars from John Wayne to Leonardo DiCaprio at Old Tucson Studios--a real-life movie set for westerns since 1939.
Chill-out spot: Relax in the Tucson Botanical Gardens, where you can drift away in a dreamy butterfly garden and skip between Mexican gold poppy and owl clover wildflowers.
Where the locals go: Go back in time to the Wild West at the Pinnacle Peak Steakhouse, which serves mesquite-grill steaks fit for a true cowboy, and entertains with Old West stunt shows as you attempt to finish your gigantic meal.
